CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS FOR 2023

If you're like me and wondering what to buy for those people in your life who never seem to have a clue about what they might like, I've asked our design team to come up with a few ideas to help.

Their suggestions needed to be gifts that don't require extensive changes to a homeowner's property and are related to popular personas.

So, here we go, our Christmas Gift ideas for 2023.

Induction Hob Griddle Plate by Miele

The Foodie

The Foodie - Happiest when in the kitchen, loves trying new recipes, and experimenting with ingredients.

Philip Harrison – “As we gently move towards induction cooktop technology becoming the standard in every home, not everyone is equipped with the accessories required to extend the appliance's cooking capabilities. Old pots and pans from the days when we used gas or ceramic hobs don't work anymore, and we soon forget about whipping up a stir-fry in a wok like we used to.

This year, why not treat your induction cooking foodie to a collection of accessories that will enable them to embrace new recipes?"

The Tepan Yaki – Transform your cooktop into the perfect appliance to create authentic Japanese cuisine. The stainless-steel plate sits on top of the cooktop and provides a large surface on which you can easily fry vegetables, fish, and meats. Available from Miele and Gaggenau.

The Griddle Plate – Made of cast aluminium and a non-stick ceramic coating, the griddle plate provides the perfect accessory for BBQ lovers who relish the aroma and appearance of roast meat, fish, and vegetables.

The Wok – To truly appreciate Asian cooking, a wok is an essential cookware. The Gaggenau edition is designed with an enthusiastic cook in mind, crafted from multi-layered materials for durability and even heat distribution. Bought together with the optional wok stand, it will make cooking even more pleasurable.”

Keuco illuminated bathroom mirror

The TECHY

The Techy – likes products that incorporate new technologies and appreciates design.

Our suggestion to this persona could have been easy, a smart kitchen appliance of some sort. There are plenty to choose from. However, I challenged Pieter to take inspiration from a different room in the house, the bathroom.

Pieter du Toit – "Okay, I like a challenge. I think a bathroom mirror could make an amazing gift for Christmas for a person who appreciates technology.

The latest pieces from Keuco feature integrated colour-changing LED lighting, different ambient lighting modes, and, most importantly, a system to quickly defog the mirror. All this is built into an incredibly slim and stylish contemporary design; it reminds me of the very latest flat-screen TVs.

The only slight caveat with this suggestion is the requirement of power for the mirror. Therefore, as part of the gift, I would recommend the mirror be installed by a professional to ensure everything is perfect."

Steam Combination Oven by Gaggenau

THE FITNESS GURU

The Fitness Guru – Knows what a Macro is, enjoys the gym, and takes exercise and nutrition seriously.

Cassie is our resident fitness enthusiast, so who better to help suggest a suitable gift?

Cassie Nelson-Hall – "If this person is like me, then maximising the nutritional value of what they eat would be important. If I am taking the time to prepare a meal that will provide my body with the vitamins, minerals, carbs, and proteins I need to be healthy, I'd like to ensure I lose as little as possible during the cooking process. For example, boiling vegetables can reduce nutrient levels by up to 50% in some cases.

So, my suggestion would be a Steam Combination Oven. An expensive gift, I appreciate, but one that will benefit everyone in the household.

A Steam Combi oven provides all of the traditional 'dry' cooking capabilities you are used to but features the ability to add in, or exclusively cook with, steam. This can improve your roasts and cakes by retaining moisture but also effectively cook ingredients you might once have boiled on the hob.

By steaming vegetables, you aren't losing so much of the nutrient value because you aren't subjecting them to being submerged in boiling water for a prolonged period. Fish is also a standout dish when cooked in a steam-combi oven; it is delicious!

I am sure the fitness guru in your life would be delighted with a steam-combi oven. By the way, if anyone would like to buy me one, that would be great!"

THE BOOKWORM

The Bookworm – Often found in a comfy seat, lost in the words of a favourite author.

The beauty of a book is it can be read virtually anywhere, but if you were going to treat the bookworm in your life, would a space made just for them, and their hobby be the ideal gift this Christmas? If so, what would it need?

Charlotte Wright – "I suppose I'd start with a chair; I'd like to be comfortable. Maybe a single seat, so I'm in my space, just for me, with a high back so I can relax into it. It would also be classic in style, a chair to complement any room. The Carl Hansen & Son Signature Chair would be my suggestion; it is graceful and looks like a seat I could spend a few hours in, away from the worries of the world.

Then I would need some lighting that illuminates just the area around me, enough to read by but cosy and intimate. This could be achieved with a table lamp, but I'm thinking of decorative pendants, maybe a cluster over an adjacent side table.

The newly released Brokis Bamboo Forest pendants would complement the curves of the Signature chair. A hanging group of lamps would create a zone of light and an eye-catching focus during daylight hours.

The list could go on, tables, rugs, etc., etc., but for some gift ideas, I think these two would be perfect."
