The Brief

Our clients wished to refresh and refine the layout of their kitchen to enhance the storage and cooking functionality whilst improving the social aspects of the layout.

The kitchen sits alongside a thoroughfare to the dining area and garden beyond. Footfall through the space needed to be carefully considered when planning the new layout so pathways would remain clear.

The original kitchen extractor hood took up valuable wall space, reducing potential storage. It also meant the hob had to be positioned against the wall for ducting purposes. Using a BORA induction cooktop with integrated downdraft extraction the kitchen layout was able to fundamentally change. This released the hob from the wall and made the wall space available for storage units.

With the sink repositioned, the peninsular could become a more usable space. On the dining area side, the worktop overhang provides space for casual seating and hidden storage, whilst the opposite side is a working zone complete with deep drawers for utensils, pots and pans.

The handleless cabinetry visually lengthens the kitchen with strong horizontal lines and uncluttered fronts. The raised Miele ovens improve the kitchen ergonomics compared to the original, with no more bending to place in, or take out, pots and heavy dishes.

A roller shutter garage hides away the small electrical appliances that once filled areas of the worktop and reduced useful prep space. Interior illumination highlights the wood veneer and glassware.

When cooking at the induction cooktop our clients can now enjoy views into the garden and easily converse with family and friends around the table, without turning their back.

The flush-fit cooktop means the whole worktop surface simply needs a quick wipe once dinner is prepared.

To further reduce the number of small appliances which filled the original kitchen worktop, a Quooker boiling hot water tap was included in the design. Behind the tap, the glass panel wall system features a function rail and storage accessories which slide along the groove to be easily repositioned.
