The Brief

Our clients desired a stylish modern kitchen to better enjoy time with family and friends. The link between the kitchen and dining area was to be opened up, creating a larger, more open-plan, room.

The Design

The kitchen layout, with a central island and breakfast bar seating area, keeps a thoroughfare to the back doors clear without interfering with the cooking area - perfect for small children who may run through the property. The island provides space for preparation and plating up, making the transition to the dining table easy and efficient.

A utility room, located in the top right of the plan, provides more storage options for dry goods and laundry appliances.

Using a combination of rough sawn oak veneer and smooth lacquered cabinetry in ‘Gravel’, the bulthaup b3 kitchen design provides a clean visual appearance with an element of natural warmth and detail. Vertical book-matched oak veneer panels emphasise the height of the room, with the wood grain direction reflected on the wall-hung units, left and right.

The handleless kitchen utilises the bulthaup ‘e-grip’ system along the top drawers, and ‘touch-to-open’ latches beneath. By using e-grip along the very top, the accidental opening of drawers is reduced and access can be achieved by holding the drawer from any position.

The oak veneer breakfast bar and Carl Hansen and Son bar stools reflect the natural wood grain detailing of the bulthaup tall units. Stainless steel wraps around the kitchen tying elements together, noticeable in the handrail grip recess, the plinths, Miele appliances and bar stool footrests.

A Function Rail, complete with accessories, offers the user a place for the storage of useful items such as herbs, coffee, tea and sugar, and kitchen roll. When using the Quooker Combi instant boiling hot water tap, the kitchen corner becomes the perfect tea station with everything at hand.
