The Brief

As part of a Clair Strong Interior Design property renovation, we worked with the clients to update their kitchen to enhance the environment and improve the usability of the space.

The original room lacked worktop space and storage and felt dark and cramped.

While the original U-shaped layout couldn't be drastically altered, strategic changes made a big difference.

Removing the doorway between the kitchen and utility room instantly opened up the space and improved flow. The sink, originally tucked away in a corner, was repositioned for easier access and better use of the area.

Similarly, the cooktop was relocated, creating ample workspace beside it. These seemingly small changes significantly improved the kitchen's functionality.

The fireplace envisioned as a cosy centrepiece, previously housed pots and pans in the hearth. We designed a mid-height cabinet alongside it, offering storage without overwhelming the space. The top served as a display area for books and decorative items, complementing the natural wood open wine rack and tray storage units below.

Opting for shaker-style framed doors in a deep anthracite grey, our clients achieved a classic look that fit their Georgian property. To counteract potential darkness, white marblesque stone was chosen for the worktops and wall cladding, reflecting light and adding visual interest with its delicate veining. Integrated LED lighting further brightens the space, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The redesigned utility room seamlessly extends the kitchen's storage and functionality. Wooden crates add visual warmth alongside stacked laundry appliances, while metallic shell handles throughout echo the past and complement the stainless-steel Gaggenau ovens.

The kitchen boasts top-of-the-line appliances. The BORA induction cooktop with downdraft extraction eliminates the need for a bulky hood, maximizing overhead storage. Its flush fit also simplifies cleaning. Gaggenau ovens and a warming drawer, positioned at chest height, minimize bending and maximize floor space.

With these thoughtful design choices, we transformed the clients' kitchen into a beautiful, functional, and timeless space that perfectly reflects their needs and complements their Georgian home.
