The Brief
To complement a large barn conversion, our clients desired a kitchen that could comfortably cater for 12 or more guests in an open-plan contemporary home.
The Design
The main wall holds a large one-and-a-half, stainless steel, under-mounted sink with a glass back splashback. Above, a discrete hanging rail places utensils within easy reach and, either side, two bulthaup b3 Function Boxes offer even greater convenience - a knife rack, chopping block and double sockets.
Stylish stainless steel Gaggenau 400 series ovens and warming drawer sit alongside a large pocket door. A storage cabinet designed to be a breakfast area, holding the toaster, coffee machine and appropriate crockery. Positioned on the left of the sink, is a free-standing fridge/freezer and dry store larder keeping all of the food storage is in one place.
Having the two island arrangement enabled us to create larger storage capacity and worktop area. Two cooks would have plenty of room to work together simultaneously without crossing paths.
Island one features plenty of preparation space plus a large sink, Quooker boiling hot-water tap and second dishwasher. On the rear is a beautiful bulthaup walnut breakfast bar, which adds further warmth to the bulthaup colour scheme of Flint and Gravel.
The cooking island includes a BORA Classic 2.0 flush-mounted, double induction hob with downdraft extractor. The motor and ducting route runs below the furniture within the sub-floor, to the outside world. The island is suitably deep to allow plenty of storage on both sides with an under-counter wine fridge located nearest to the table for easy access for dining at the table.
The result is a kitchen which combines beautifully crafted bulthaup b3 furniture with fantastic cooking appliances and superb architecture. The homeowners have an amazing, inspirational and hard-working kitchen for many years to come.
DETAILS
Along the edge of the bartop are double sockets and USB ports. Ideally placed for use with the kitchen hand tools as well as laptops and iPads.
