The Brief

When designing a contemporary new build property overlooking the Avon Gorge and the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol, our clients desired the very best kitchen for their home - a bulthaup b3.

The open-plan kitchen and dining space looks out over the Avon Gorge, with direct access to an outside decked area. The layout offers a social seating area around the large central island, equipped with cooking/extraction technology from BORA.

A sliding pocket door neatly hides away a pantry area fitted with open shelving and an American-style fridge freezer. Further storage is maximised throughout the kitchen, along the wall units and within the island.

The bulthaup b3 kitchen is finished in Flint laminate and Natural Oak veneer, book-matched to emphasise the wavy grain structure of the wood. Aluminium wall panels along the sink run reflect natural light back into the space, brightening the overall ambience of the room.

The bulthaup b3 wall-panelling includes a useful rail mounting system upon which a variety of useful accessories can be mounted and positioned to suit the users preference.

The bulthaup b3 kitchen island is topped with Neolith ‘Iron Moss’ engineered stone, which provides an eye-catching contrast to the uniform finish of the bulthaup fronts.

Our client’s love of sculpture is clearly displayed above the island in the form of Tom Dixon's ‘Melt’ pendant lights. An orderly row of organic forms transforms the reflected view of the room when viewed from below. The use of a BORA Professional induction cooktop, with integrated downdraft extraction, makes this arrangement possible by removing the need for an overhead extractor hood.

A bulthaup b3 pocket door opens to reveal a space which is perfect for everyday small appliances, such as the toaster and coffee machine, that would often clutter worktop surfaces when not in use.

The kitchen island finishes reflect those found around the wider space. A steel bartop connects the island to the wall panelling, whilst the oak wishbone chairs tie the island together with the oak veneer tall cabinets.
