Designing and building premium luminaires that produce top-quality light is not only Tobias Grau’s aim; it’s their passion. Today that means intense involvement with new technologies whilst paying equal attention to ecological aspects. This results in totally new possibilities and necessities for lighting design.
The introduction of LEDs has enabled Tobias Grau to create a totally new kind of design for home lighting – with shapes, materials and sizes that wouldn’t be possible with previously conventional light sources. By redesigning the technology of their existing lamps to incorporate LEDs Tobias Grau not only lowered power consumption but also improved the light quality.
The use of halogen technology will continue to be important; in particular, low-voltage halogen is definitely the best option for small, powerful spotlights as featured in the NAME SPOT and TUBE ranges.
But despite all these changes, there’s one thing that always remains the same: the real challenge of designing a highly technical product like a luminaire in such a way that the end result is sensuous, as well as functional – and that’s a question of feeling rather than logic.
